Legacy Campaign kicks off with
Choir Reunion and Showcase
Over 50 GHS Choir alumni returned to Garland High on March 7-8 to participate in the first-ever all-school choir reunion and public showcase performance to help kick-off the Legacy Campaign, an effort to raise funds for a choir room grand piano and new sound equipment for the program.
Past GHS Choir directors Jim R. Henderson, Dr. Johnny Bragg, Teresa Trull Martin, Sharon King, Randy Talley, and Randy Hooper provided leadership to the alumni choir, with Henderson, Bragg , Martin and Hooper directing the choir in concert. GHS Choir Director Cheryl Wilson led the current Acappella choir in its portion of the showcase, while alumni Jennifer Glidden and Francisco Rendon delivered outstanding featured solo performances.
The event and its associated donations netted almost a quarter of the overall amount needed for the critical purchases. The opportunity for additional donations continues with the "purchase" of piano keys on a beautiful GHS Choir drawing that will hang in the auditorium foyer. Pictures from the reunion weekend can be ordered through Judy Hunt photography.
GHS Choir 6 for 6 for All-State!
Six of our choir students auditioned at the TMEA Area C audition on Saturday Jan. 5, 2008 at John Horn High School in Mesquite and all six earned high enough scores to be placed into the three TMEA All-State Choirs! The process began in July with many students taking a summer "camp" to learn the region music. After a successful pre-audition at GHS, students audition for the All-Region Choir. 22 students were selected for this choir. After Region, 11 GHS students were sent to Pre-Area audition to select the top 5 in each voice part. 6 GHS students passed this round and went to Area - the final audition before All-State! see our 22 students. . .
